The Short Story Contest is a continuation of the support provided by the Library to local writing. It is organized in order to shine a spotlight on local writers who write short stories.

The Scripps Ranch Friends of the Library (SRFOL) is an auxiliary organization created to support the Scripps Miramar Ranch branch of the San Diego Public Library. To this end the SRFOL generates income through donations, fundraising efforts, and the selling of used books. More than 85% of the income generated by the SRFOL each year is spent.
